Do I have to build gcc from a distribution to get gcj and libgcj?

Probably, but check 'fink' first to see if there's one out there.

I searched fink and did not find a package, but there is a Darwin Ports package of gcj.


No specific Apple answers here, but a reasonable hypothesis, I think. Good luck building it, if you try that path! I'd guess it should
work, but I haven't tried. 

I compiled gcj on Panther and remember it being fairly easy.
