How does Mail.app link up to AddressBook?

Hi,

I am just working on an open source project [1] to write a Semantic Web Address Book [2]. I would like this address book to replace my AddressBook.app (I love AddressBook, but I think one can do better). Does anyone know (or know someone who knows) how Mail.app communicates with AddressBook to display the picture of the sender in the mail metadata pane? Is there anyway one can do the same from a Java application? I.e. what do I have to do to my Semantic Web AddressBook so that it can communicate with Mail? Is there anything I need to do to get the same integration with iChat and other apps?

Look forward to any ideas on this.

Thanks in advance,

	Henry Story
