The current JDIC release has support for the TrayIcon API on Mac OS
X. I should know, since I wrote it ;)
I don't know what the JDK 6 implementation does, but the JDIC
implementation supports adding an image (including support for
animated GIFs), a text label, a tool tip, and a custom menu. I didn't
get around to implementing the notification balloons like on Windows,
but I may still do that if I find some spare time someday:)

I don't think that anything was implemented for Mac OS X in JDIC.
But there is mention of TrayIcon and Mac OS X in the release notes
for JDK 6.0, where it is stated that the "tray" function is
performed on the Mac by the right-hand side of the menu bar. JDIC
has - in some sense - been integrated into JDK 6.0, so I guess
it's now down to Apple to do something appropriate.
Thanks, Stephen. That's what I was hoping for. TrayIcon in JDIC
only seems to be implemented for Windows and Linux. So it's good
to see that Apple has done something reasonable functionality-wise.
Thanks,
