I'm more than happy with Netbeans.
Due to massive memory leaks when running NetBeans on Mac, I can only
use it for 30 mins max before I need to shut it down to reclaim RAM.
It may be related to how many times I invoke the debugger.
Am I the only one seeing this?
I use it more on Mac than Eclipse (it seems to run a bit better than
SWT apps) though on Windows I prefer Eclipse.
For me it's amazing, and now that the last version has Subversion
integration is the only I will use.
Does all the things you say, and a lot munch more. The Refactoring
specially is just wonderfull and works like a charm.
Refactoring in Eclipse is better. But NetBeans is catching up.
For me Eclipse is so slow and clumsy,
probably true on Mac more than Windows. SWT was such a misguided,
bad idea.
and everything seems too complicated to do.
Probably it is just a matter of getting past the initial bump in the
learning curve. I find that NetBeans is more awkward to use for
general coding than Eclipse. But I suspect part of that is related
to familiarity with the application. It seems I can get more done
with less hotkeys to memorize in Eclipse. (ctrl-space for
autocomplete and ctrl-1 for quick-fix cover soooo much)
Now I only need a perl editor plugin, and I am the happiest
developer of the world :)
Well there you go.. when I look at Perl I want to run away
screaming :) .. basically it shows how much these things are just a
matter of personal preference. You've just got to try a few IDEs and
settle on the one you are most comfortable with.
