Is that really the sole deciding factor? Suppose the number is slightly
lower for an Intel-based Mac. How long would it stay that way?
You're gambling that the current ratio, whatever it is, will always be that
way, yet there's no evidence for that at all. Any future Java or OS update
on either architecture could flip the -Xmx ratio at any time.
And that's not from any confidential information, either. It just
recognizes that software changes independently from the machine it runs on.
A year ago, who would have thought, "I'll buy an Intel-based iMac now so I
can boot Windows on it later"? Only the crazy ones, the misfits, the
rebels, the ones who'd stopped taking their medications.
