I have now re-installed Java 5 update 4 by deleting the receipt and running software update... That seems to have improved things greatly. I'm not sure if that has undone various things that the SWT hack and/or Java 6 beta might have done, but the memory growth seems to have slowed. I will keep an eye on it, but I think the leak has been plugged.

I should give NB5.5beta a try again. If this was AWT related then perhaps my painting problems have been fixed as well.

If I have the time I may re-install the SWT hack to verify. Obviously a bug should be filed against it, if it turns out to be directly related to the problem.

Well that seemed to slow things down, but the VSIZE still grew to over a gigabyte and system performance suffered. That is without actually doing anything in NetBeans, just having it launched with a project loaded.

I might try NB 5.5 beta 2 if it comes out next week.

I just wish there was an easy way to narrow down what is different with my system, since obviously this isn't happening for everybody.
