Re: What's the max VM size available

I'm guessing then that this wouldn't be something to use in a release…

When I try this, Java appears to crash. Is that expected behavior? (I do have Developer crash options enabled for the system.)

It does indeed "appear" to crash on Mac OS X, judging by the odd behavior at the command line when you see "Trace/BPT Trap". But I've been unable to locate anything in any logs suggesting an actual crash has occurred. But it's important to note what it says before that:

Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap

Repeat the process with a lower value for the -Xmx setting until you get a usage statement. For me, using -Xmx2109 (PowerBook G4, Java 1.5, OS X 10.4.7) produces the error message above, but -Xmx2108 produces a usage statement.
