As I recall, an iBook has a PowerPC CPU, and the PowerPC version of Java
6's current DP has a significant JIT compiler limitation.  Read the release
notes for the Java 6 DP.

Regarding Java 5, you'll have to explain what your performance tests
actually measured.  And did your measurements account for the 2.3X
difference in CPU clock speed between the iBook and the W/XP box?
