Java and Mac Hardware worst case test question

We're developing a product that uses, at a minimum, a JVM of 1.4X on OS X Panther and up.

After reading several of the posts for a few days regarding multiple processors, Java performance, etc. etc. I thought a good question might be to get a feel for what we should use as a low end base for testing.

When I bought my original iBook nearly 4 years ago, the salesman told me he was using one of those old Mac's that was multi-colored (remember...strawberry and white, turquoise and white) and he was running OS X Jaguar on it. The processor was probably on the order of a few hundred MHz. My iBook has a 600MHz G3 in it.

With all that said, what do you fellows feel would be a set of good low end (as in slow and old) machines to test against? The intent is to be able to determine what the CPU/speed limits should be on our product. We would likely be looking at either renting some or buying them from used computer stores. I'm really not familiar with some of the older hardware to know what will and won't work with newer OS and Java releases.

Thanks in Advance,

Bill Wagner
