| Well, I must say that this is not new for me. In Linux and in previous Netbeans versions also happened the same, and was really weird. NB losed all focus if you were using VMWare console at the same time. And also some times if you minimized Firefox with the focus active on any form. In the VMWare case, the only solution was restart the X server. That's why I learned how to solve it. Usually Maximizing/Minimizing windows and changing focuses some times solved the problem in the Firefox case. I suppose is the same kind of thing on MacOS, and you are right the effect was worse on previous NB versions....

First I had a 512Mb one, and did'nt had any problem with developing while using Mail and Browsing was. But with a mysql, an apache and a somewat big perl server running, the application switch usualy taked more time than expected. So upgraded to 1Gb and now everything is perfect.
I'm using the "5.5beta", and the great profiler a lot. The only glitch is than sometimes the keyboard "loses" the connection with Netbeans (once a day, more or less). Not sure what the exact conditions are under which the keyboard gets lost, but it sounds like a bug we've been solving for 5.0 already and which was mainly a apple 1.5 jdk problem, we introduced a few workarounds that made it less severe and in the latest 1.5 jdk it should be all gone. I haven't experienced it for some time myself. So please try updating to the latest release (or latest dev preview, not sure) and if the problem persists and you can identify the pattern, please file a bug

I have never been forced to shut it down, even if it has more problems with memory than Eclipse (I've to add that i mostly use NetBeans5.5beta, maybe there's some fix in it).
Well NB 5.5 has worse problems... the display is often corrupted such that the source code is not painted and various images appear in the wrong place. It's much less stable on my system.
I only have 768MB in this PowerBook. Which should be enough to run NetBeans for small projects.
