Re: javaws on command line

I would tend to think the 1.4 version of javaws would launch stuff with the 1.4 JVM and the 1.5 version would launch in the 1.5 JVM. I doubt the executable javaws knows anything about the Java Preferences.app, but this is just my humble opinion. If you have a spec or version tag that specifies 1.5, I would expect you to get some kind of versioning error when launched with 1.4.2. But even so, I don't know how the 1.4 version of javaws would be able to find the 1.5 version of the JVM. In short, these tags, IMHO, are to ensure you are running on the required platforms, but not to pick from a choice of platforms.

However, since I actually don't know for sure, I'll hang up and let someone else chime in :-)

Sure, but shouldn't the VM the app is running in independent of the VM javaws is running in?

Basically isn't it the jnlp file that should specify the VM version and now what version of javaws is used to launch the app?
