There was once a property that selected Quartz2D Extreme for rendering, but
it was only a blip in the long history of pursuing graphics performance in
Java.  I don't think it survived more than one of the 1.4 releases.  Check
the historical release-notes to find its name.  In any case, that property
had no effect if Q2DX wasn't enabled, or if your graphics card wasn't
Q2DX'able.
