Are you talking about a JNLP desktop application? Judging from the error, I'd say you were, and the JNLP was requesting 1.5+ or something similar.

We don't have JNLP/Web Start support yet in Java 6, but it's coming. You may need to change the Info.plist of that saved application so it launches in 1.5
