Re-installing Netbeans

This is probably just a Netbeans problem, not truly a Mac problem, but I'm
running Netbeans on OS X 10.4.6 with Java 1.5 installed, so I hope members
of the list will be generous again.

Many thanks for recent help from this list when I described a null pointer
exception upon launching Netbeans, and also broken platform links for my
projects. The advice I received helped my to get Netbeans to recognize and
even compile many of my projects (but not quite all.)

Even so, I think I've done something bad to Netbeans. I cannot get Netbeans
to create new projects for me: the New Project wizard dies and the project
files are only partly created. Also, I still get null pointer exceptions
upon launch, and now upon exit the process that writes to persistent storage
appears to hang.

So I've decided to do some sort of "clean" re-install of Netbeans and
re-open my old projects one at a time. This turns out to be not so easy.
There's some persistent storage that Netbeans writes upon exit. I think I
should trash it all so that when I reinstall, Netbeans has no choice but to
assign defaults.

I haven't succeeded yet in finding all of the persistent storage.

Should I trash everything in ~/. Netbeans?
Is there anything else I need to trash?
What about Java 1.5? Is there a way to do a "clean" re-install? or shouldn't
I bother?
