Re: Ann: Java SE 6 for PPC (ect.. ect..)

yaaaaay!!! here here for making that decision to let it all stay in a single non-overlapping directory! In fact, I'll be so bold as to hope and pray and sacrifice chickens that it will *always* stay that way.

btw, also the insinuation that the PowerPC-ness of the release is only good for laughs makes me wonder. Has *everybody* jumped on the early release of the Intel Mac's? I've always thought it was a good idea to wait for 2nd/3rd generations of those kinds of changes. Any early adopters of the 17" macbook pro??

Anyone played with this yet? How does it work? Are there some apps that show off specific cool features of this new Java release I could try on my Power Book 1.33Ghz?

Check the readme... I doubt anyone will bother to run this on PowerPC other than for a good laugh.

Scott

Please do install it! This release is quite usable on PowerPC. It's probably premature to be filing performance bugs, but for everyday use it is in very good shape.
Also, please note that in DP2 in particular, all the bits live inside a single folder:

    /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0

In spite of the somewhat dire warnings not to install DP2 on Systems with critical data, DP2 really is unlikely to slop over and mess up your experience running your production version of java. This is likely to change as we continue working on more developing Java SE 6, but for now, it's pretty damn safe to experiment with.
