In my zeal to play with prerelease versions of JDK 5, I ... um...
blew out JDK 1.4 off the hard drive at some point. I think that's why
neo office won't work.

How do I restore JDK 1.4?

Not knowing what you exactly clobbered (you never needed to do that)
best way is to do a reinstall of the operating. Use the reinstall
option that preserves user data then reapply operating system updates
as needed.
