Re: Java application to play mp3 and shoutcast

As I understand it, SHOUTcast is not a codec, but a streaming protocol for MP3 or AAC. In any case, iTunes can play both formats and should do so automatically for appropriate URLs. I'm not sure what role your proposed Java application would play. Perhaps you can provide more details?

Hi!

I'm currently charged with exploring the possibilities for an Java application to play (and only play) MP3 and Shoutcast on Mac OS X using the OS onboard capabilities (to avert licensing problems).
Ideally the Java app would hand off the URL of the stream to be played, through JNI, to the concerned module of the OS.
My questions are:
Is there a Shoutcast codec available in e.g. Core Audio?
Has anybody done this before?
