Re: Are we still being polite about Java 6 ?

I am just reading "The Wealth of Networks" by Yochai Benkler, which is available online
http://www.benkler.org/wonchapters.html

In chapter 7 starting page 220, Prof. Benkler tells the story of how people organised to stop Sinclair Broadcasting insert a huge amount of political propaganda into the 2004 elections.

The important point is that Sinclair was only moved when real economic pressure came to bear on his company. The developers here have argued that in a similar way Apple will only make a move on this issue if not doing so will hurt their wallet. The people to convert apparently are the sales people. I am not sure how much pressure one can put in a networked way on Apple, but that may be the way to do it. I would suggest that their Achilles heel is that without Java they are certainly a lot less interesting to the enterprise. If you look at style of the Aluminium MacBook Pros they are clearly aiming for that market. That is just a thought.

It is certainly worth reading that chapter.

Don't be ridiculous. We see posts from Apple Java developers on a daily basis here on the list. There's certainly a Java team at Apple.

We know, equally, that they can't say anything about un-released products. That's standard Apple policy. We also know that no-one who can make decisions about commenting on un-released products reads this list. So... why are we bothering with flames and over-the-top statements about Java 6?

Anyway the java team of Apple -as everybody knows- is not allowed to talk so...we cant blame them

I even wonder if there still is such a thing as the "java team of Apple". Maybe they have all been moved to Steves toy factory.
