I wish Apple would just open-source the Cocoa-AWT bridge, and then
Landon Fuller et al. could get Swing up and running natively in their
port. I don't see why Apple can't just do this. It's not like Apple
seems that serious about maintaining the Apple JDK going forward.
People have come forward to volunteer their time, that are willing to,
and it would be nice if Apple could just contribute to that effort
through the source donation.
It would only benefit Apple to do this anyways, since they would no
longer have to maintain the JDK, and all the Apple Java Development
community will be the better for it. It would be win-win for everyone.

You're right, it may not have any direct impact - though presuming
that the Apple Java engineers have some sympathy with our problems
it might be a handy archive of messages for them to show their
bosses. Whether it has any impact or not, since this is a forum for
java developers who work with OSX it does seem like a reasonable
place to discuss the matter, doesn't it ?

Has anyone thought of getting a petition started and sending the
results
directly to Steve Jobs? I for one would sign. Someone influential
should
start the petition (i.e. James Gosling, JavaLobby, etc.)
I really share everyone's frustration, but whether we're polite or
not
on this mailing list is just not going to influence anyone at Apple
who
is in a position to make a difference.
Cheers, Eric
