Apple Java 6 for OS X 10.4 is still available (was Re: Are we still being polite about Java 6 ?)

Java 6 *is* still available on the developer.apple site (see link below). That has not changed.

What has also not changed is that it is for Mac OS X 10.4 only:

Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 6 delivers improved reliability and compatibility for J2SE 5.0 and Java 1.4 on Mac OS X 10.4.10 and later. This release updates J2SE 5.0 to version 1.5.0_13 and Java 1.4 to version 1.4.2_16. See the release notes for more information.

[NOTE: it used to say "Java for Mac OS X 10.4 or higher" until it was pointed out that 10.5 might be considered higher
than 10.4 ::-]

While I cannot attest to the claim that information about this release 6 Java used to appear on:
<http://developer.apple.com/java/>

...I can say that it is available at:
http://developer.apple.com/java/download/

I'm am just as puzzled and put-out that Java 6 for Mac OS X 10.*5* is not yet available after all this time (and I have expressed these concerns through several Apple channels) but I felt is should be noted that Apple has not removed Java 6 for 10.4. That is, they have not removed it from their website. In that light, an explanation from Apple as to why it was removed wouldn't make sense.

I do whole-heartedly agree, however, that some statement from Apple Inc. as to what is currently happening (e.g. "Java 6 for Mac OS X 10.5 is being worked on.") would be prudent and show a more positive regard toward the developer community than the pure silence currently coming from Apple on this.

Obviously nothing will be announced in December. With MacWorld so close behind that, surely Apple would not bother making any announcement in January before MacWorld. Perhaps something new and exciting is in the works TBA@MacWorld: Java 6 for iPhone?

Nah. Probably not. ::-( That kind of thing wouldn't come until the iPhone SDK announcement in February.

While resisting the urge to add fuel to this fire, I just want to
point out that Apple DID have public information about Java 6 on their
Java developer page at one point <http://developer.apple.com/java/>
which explicitly mentioned the developer preview available through
ADC. Then they removed this information from the website without any
explanation.
