I have gotten Visual Editor 1.2 to run on Eclipse 3.2
on my PPC 10.4.8 but it is buggy. Swing components
don't appear in the preview view, you cannot resize or
move components, etc. However, the code generated
looks fine and you can manually hand code but then
that sort of defeats the purpose of a "visual" editor,
doesn't it.
Guess it's a reason to get a Intel Mac and dual-boot
Windoze.

Hi all,
I'd like to try switching to Eclipse for my Java
development. Eclipse runs fine so far... but I've been
trying to get the Visual Editor tool to work properly,
and it won't seem to work. I install the files (Visual
Editor runtime 1.2 from
<http://download.eclipse.org/tools/ve/
downloads/drops/R-1.2-200606280938/index.html>, but
the features do not show up in Eclipse. The
installation instructions suggested I do a clean
restart (./eclipse -clean) but this didn't help.
It has been very difficult to figure out the current
state of the Visual Editor project -- there doesn't
seem to be a lot of recent information on it, and a
lot of the information is contradictory. For example,
the FAQ clearly states that Mac OS is not supported,
but there is a Mac OS runtime available for download
(and a Bugzilla entry stating that 1.2 is Mac
compatible). I am guessing that it IS supported on Mac
OS, but now that the Visual Editor project is stable,
the documentation is not being maintained very well.
So, I guess this question is a 2-parter: (#1), can
anyone help me get Visual Editor running on Eclipse on
my Mac (10.4.8, Java 5, Intel iMac), and (#2) can
anyone help illuminate the current state of Visual
Editor on Mac OS?
Thank you,
Joe Warmbrodt
