What happen to Java 6 actually ? Any ideas ?

It's still early. Java6 only went gold from Sun about 6 weeks ago. I suspect we'll see it with Leopard.

I scanned over that blog and saw some people suggesting that Sun should step up and take on Java for OS X like they do some other platforms, while other people responded that Sun would somehow mess it up. I'd probably be happier if Apple does the bulk of the work with *their* OS to ensure our high expectations are met, but I do believe that *something* needs to be done to help keep pace with those others.

I've been doing full-time Java for a little over 6 years now, and I only agreed to take on this task after getting agreement from my bosses that the product I work on would *never* be relegated to Windows-only. After about 18 months, I got approval to do a Linux release, but I'm still not getting a nod for OS X. I believe that stems from three key things. First, most of those in my company responsible for promoting the product are technically illiterate and think the world resolves around Redmond. The other two are that Apple is consistently way behind in its Java releases, and that Apple keeps its Java plans (e.g., release schedules) entirely too secretive when compared to what the Java development community at large can know about plans on the platforms that Sun handles.

I love my Macs and will always be loyal. But I very much want to be able to transfer my on-the-job Java experience to my Mac rather than being forced to learn Objective-C and other tools, even if I'm only going to develop Mac-only applications for freeware or for my personal satisfaction. I suspect there are countless others out there who, like me, would like to see Apple step up and improve the Java environment for all of us.
