Thanks for the reply, I am calling JFileChooser on the EventDistpatch Thread - triple checked the code with EventQueue.isDispatchThread (as suggested by someone else on the list!).
Any other thoughts are welcome,
too bad :-( That would have been the easy fix. No other Idea, unfortunately. But as some others pointed out, using the AWT file dialog would be a much better user experience on Mac OS X (it's unfortunate, but true).
