I had hoped Spotlight would index my java files after I installed the xcode

Does anyone know how I can get Spotlight to do that?
Spotlight indexes all of my Java source files, and I've got tons of 'em.
Do you really mean Spotlight, the blue spotlight icon in the upper right
menubar? Or do you mean Xcode's code indexing? Xcode's code indexing is
completely unrelated to Spotlight.
Spotlight should index Java files even without Xcode being installed. I
just checked this on a punier machine that's never had Xcode on it, and
Spotlight does index Java files w/o Xcode.
For further clarification, please describe exactly what you did or
attempted to do that led you to believe Spotlight had not indexed your Java
files.
If you really do mean Spotlight, then some Spotlight setting somewhere is
somehow telling it not to index .java files, or some MDImporter somewhere
is inexplicably claiming .java files and then not indexing them properly.
How that happened or how to correct it, I don't know, since that's a
Spotlight issue, possibly caused by some other app that installed something
that prevents .java files from being indexed.
