If the latter, then your best bet might be an internet-enabled DMG file.
There are security implications in any case, and rolling your own launcher
with jnlp is possible, but I'd hate to make a mistake and nuke the security.



I know about the Internet-Enabled DMG, but that takes at least two extra clicks to get the app running. I would like to have it run automatically from the initial download click.

You can't guarantee one click, even with JNLP - I, like many, have turned off Safari's 'open safe files after downloading', so when I click on your JNLP link, I have to go to my downloads folder and open it manually.


If you can be sure that your users will not have this setting disabled, then you could have a webstart java app that has the Cocoa app as a payload and launches it.

Or maybe just use Apple Remote Desktop, if it's a helpdesk/shared screen type app ;-)
