I'm going to optimistically chalk your comments up to FUD :P
Apple's website still lists Java under 'Key Technologies' for Leopard, and they mention a 'Complete JDK' under 'Development (including Maen, I assume they mean Maven which is a new and cool addition AFAIK). <http://www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs/>
They also mention 'You can even use 64-bit Java on capable Intel processors.' Since 64-bit functionality is not available in Java 5 on Tiger, one could reasonably assume that Apple has updated Java for Leopard. <http://www.apple.com/macosx/technology/64bit.html>
Hopefully our fears will be confirmed or alleviated in 10 days...
