I do oracle client application development on a  Mac, you'll have no trouble running the java oracle thin client as it's a type 4 driver with no native code.

Installing the Oracle server is a problem, as it's not supported on tiger client and there is no intel version. If you are on PPC it is possible as I used to have it running but you won't find any official installation instructions from oracle. A google search should reveal sufficient information for you to cobble it together if you're persistent.

If you are on intel you could install parallels and then run either a linux or windows version. Parallels have an oracle lite on linux virtual appliance here http://ptn.parallels.com/en/ptn/dir/
