Re: porting OpenJDK to OS X

Not to throw a monkey wrench into the gears, but isn't the X11 OS X kit an open source project? Since the Linux port uses X11 as it's interface, I would think a "work around" (if anyone has a **lot** of free time on their hands) might be to try and take the Linux port and compile it against OS X's X11 library. I would also think someone clever might be able to analyze and replace the Xll libs with their own which directly addressed the video subsystem and bypassed X11 all together.

Just a thought,

Bill Wagner

The major problem I see will be porting AWT/Swing to Cocoa since the
"standard" bindings are X11 and Win32 so nothing exists to help you there.

Win32 bindings + Winelib? (Baling twine not included.)

I haven't actually looked at what's been released in the OpenJDK tree yet
so this is only slightly informed speculation.
