Hello. I'm new to Mac and I wanted to know how can I know the folders my programs use so I can backup it. For example, I thought I'd solve the problem copying just the Application Support and Preferences folder. But I figured out my Mail files are into Mail folder. So if I copy all the Library folder is enough? When should I use the Library into my home folder (~/Library) and when should I use the Library from the HD (/Library)? I think it could be easier. I know there is a lot of stuff I won't use on Library or will be back after reinstalling Mac OS, but I don't want to lose my bookmarks on Safari, neither Firefox's, my chat history from MSN Messenger and Adium, my e-mails, my iCal, Adress Book… Could you please help me? I think if I knew all the folder a program may use I got it. I thought just deleting the icon from Application, for example, would delete it, but I realised it creates folders and files somewhere else (as into Application Suppor and Preferences - I don't know elsewhere). I use another program for deleting programs now. How can these "deleter" softwares know the folders they have to delete when uninstalling a software? - I think this question simplify my whole question. |
