Re: Java on Leopard report



Hey Apple Guys,

Thanks for braving the list and helping out. Your inputs are appreciated.

As far as Java 6 goes, hey, we need it, at least I would like it to work with the compiler API. The other posters are right, Java is still a critical platform. Not as sexy as Ruby, granted, but very critical nonetheless.

There are millions of Java devs world wide.
There are about 250,000 Ruby devs world wide.

Yet, the power of Ruby has pushed aside a good JDK and instead we get Rails and Capistrano? How does this make sense in any calculation?

My point: Apple had time to beef up other language support and if, in fact, resources where constrained, why devote time to Python and Ruby when Java is still orders of magnitude bigger?

(Now I did not say -better- for any fans out there...)
