Java problems after migrating from PPC to Intel

One user of our huge signed applet reported a problem that sounds like it was related to migrating from PPC to Intel architecture. He was having problems loading our Java applet from his own profile, but it worked from a new profile. He now reports "Turns out there was a preference file that that ID'd my computer as a PPC and not an Intel. Probably related to my migrating to my MacBook Pro. In the end I junked the whole preference file and cleared some other issues on the computer!"

Have others seen such issues? Is there some specific advice we can give users to check if they have such a problem and give details on how to fix it?
