First, I assume this applet doesn't have JNI code, because a misidentified arch might cause some havoc with the selection of which code to run from a fat Mach-O jnilib. Or maybe not. Again, I haven't tried lying to the JVM about native architecture, so anything's possible.

I also assume this applet is running in a browser, because if it were running under JWS, I don't think you can preset the "os.arch" property to lie about the architecture.

I quoted all the details I had about the prefs on the user machine. Often it is hard to get more information after a user solved the problem as it affects them.


To answer the questions about our applet, it does not use JNI and it runs under a browser.
