I just updated to XCode 3.1 and created test projects for Java tool and Java 
(Swing) application. I then built the project, modified source files, and 
built again. From the output of the build (menu Build=>Build results) I could 
see that only modified source files were compiled. Only after calling "Clean" 
manually, everything was compiled. So it seems that either your setup is 
different, or your impression is indeed wrong.
