Re: Google Chrome and Java

The requirement of Java 6 Update 10 makes some sort of sense. Chrome runs tabs as separate processes, and also runs plug-ins (Java, Flash, etc.) as a separate process. And that is exactly one of the fundamental changes in Update 10: It runs applets as a separate process in the browser, and supports the "pulling out of the browser" functionality that Chrome also does with tabs.

All in all, I wouldn't be surprised if Chrome does not support any Java before 6U10. Ever.

And looking at Apple's Java record, that would probably mean no Java in Chrome on the Mac for some time to come.

Seeing that Google has a reputation for keeping products in beta for what seem like half an eternity, and Apple seems to take half an eternity to deliver Java updates, I wonder which eternity ends first...

chrome REQUIREs update 10! i'm sure, chrome has its impact on the browser market and also defines standards on the net.
so maybe they java version too? i doubt it... as the 32bit macs (let alone ppc) are still not presented with java 6, i guess it'll be only java 5.

is there really no hope for a recent version of java?
time is flying, myriads of bug reports, frustration everywhere!
but still no information from apple!
