I agree that obviously Apple does not provide first-class Java support
at the moment, and never did. Yes, the Java implementations are not up
to date and if I recall the pre-OS X times, I fear that Apple's
strategy might be to not develop for new Java releases. Under classic
Mac OS environment, there was quite a good Java implementation, but it
was waaaay out of date (I think nothing more than Java 1.1 supported).
Let's pray that this doesn't get repeated for OS X.
However, just complaining does not help. First of all, everyone who is
a regular member of this list will notice how strong Apple's Java
support in this list is. Considering that Apple's Java implementation
is not open source, the community is great and the communication about
bugs and feature requests in this list is amazing. Thank you Mike and
others. But if Apple is not capable providing enough resources to
develop Java any further, I hope they will open source it to provide
some code to the Soylatte project and the whole community can work on
it.
Regards,
Moritz.
