There isn't a problem with Java being 64-bit. The problem is that G5 PPC is 64-bit, and there's no Java for it. For most servers, particularly the typical internet server, a dual G5 is *more than adequate*. To force who knows how many outfits to replace prefectly adequate hardware just to be able to run some Java6 apps is besides the point.

What is even more of a riddle, why Apple even bothered ever doing any non 64-bit intel systems. It was just a matter of a couple of months delay in the introduction of intel machines, and it would have saved them the whole 64-bit transition on the intel side.
