Re: Internationalization help

Sorry, my bad. I'm used to using UTF-8 on things so I wrote that, but meant to write unicode. I've run native2ascii on the file and ended up with the following unicode:

button.cancel=„Ç≠„É£„ É≥„Ǫ„É´„ Åô„Çã

Any thoughts on why this does not display a Japanese language "Cancel"?

This is an excellent page for doing character conversions.

If you enter the string above into the Javascript Escapes box, it converts into the string your graphic was displaying. As Greg Guerin said, it seems to be doing exactly what you're asking it to do given the Unicode codes you're giving it.

You can also open Apple's International preference pane, select the 'Character Palette' checkbox and the 'Show input menu in menu bar' checkbox. Then click on the flag in your menu bar and choose Show Character Palette. Select "View: Code Tables", and you can scroll down a ways to get to Hiragana and Katakana and (I assume) other Japanese tables (I don't know Japanese at all). From there, you can select the characters you want and get the Unicode values.
