We can make a shrewd guess: whatever the platform native
implementation supports. Writing a VM seems like a great deal of
work, without a lot of benefit, when Google can instead make a
business case to Apple, and likely get that case heard. (Note: Any
developer can do the same by contacting their local _sales_ reps and
developer evangelists with hard sales numbers that would be impacted
by Java. I did that back when I was a consultant, and got at least
some traction.)

We know that a Mac app can get the user-set default java version
pretty easily, and that you can depend on Java6 on 10.6 and most
IA64/10.5, so it really depends on what Chrome targets, what Apple
ships, and what users demand. According to
http://googlemac.blogspot.com/2008/09/platforms-and-priorities.html,
you can see the progress in the source tree, so it is not going to be
a big secret what we demand. I am very excited about a public Mac OSS
Chrome project - if I spend twenty percent time on it in Q4, I can
actually talk about it in public and use it for Cocoaheads meetings.
I can also make sure that _my_ apps run well.

If you need b10 for IA64, contact the dev evangalist, and provide some
numbers. If, on the other hand, you need it for ppc or 32 bit, you
can try the same, but I am not getting a vibe that this is likely.
Given the past, I suspect that the internal Apple developers are
already working on Snow Leopard, and Snow Leopard is not going to be a
32 bit platform.
