Depending on how much existing artwork you need to bring to Java, you
might consider remaking it in Java2D.
Or you could make some sort of a centralized icon factory (in
whichever programming language / platform), deploy that app and use
it as a server to which you can send requests for rendered artwork.
I guess it depends on what it is that you want to do exactly. Is this
hypothetical, or is there a real requirement to fill?
