Thawte Freemail certificate "Cannot verify authenticity" ?

Hello Java developers,

I am slightly surprised to see that my certificate which is signed by Thawte Certificate Authority is said to be of "cannot verify the authenticity".
Isn't the fact that this certificate is signed by Thawte sufficient to verify the authenticity?

Indeed my cert is a freemail cert (converted through the process at http://www.dallaway.com/acad/webstart/) but it is obtained through all sorts of identity checks... and on Windows (XP, jdk 1.6.07, Mozilla 2.0.16) I get "The digital signature has been validated by a trusted source." for the same page.

PS: to reproduce: demo.activemath.org, click search, go to advanced search, change the criterion to "search for formula"
