I believe SWT has a Browser class that can be embedded in a Java

Not sure I want to go Eclipse for this. I'm waiting for a NetBean's
or Eclipse lobbyist to wine and dine me before I make that commitment.
If I were going to do that I might go with the JNI java WebKit
supported by members of this list and worry about Windows later.
For native Mozilla based jRex doesn't appear real current or appear
to have a fully supported OS X download anywhere, JxBrowser looks to
be a commercial successor.
The JDIC pages browser support WebStart launch tossed some exception
I don't have up anymore.
HotJava amazingly looks to still be around, totally unsupported,
ICESoft still around, still commercial.
At the moment I'm taking a look at Cobra, some less full-featured
variant of one called Lobo that I'd never heard of. It's LGPL but
might need to be used GPL since it includes Rhino for javascript. Not
entirely sure what GPL implies but I'd just as soon avoid it. I'm
wondering if I could easily turn off the Rhino hooks right now. I
remember in the past spending days trying to figure out a way to get
a java browser with javascript support. I even considered trying it
myself as one of my "delusions of grandeur" projects. Now I've found
one that went and did it, and I don't want it.
