I've lost a few mails of this thread and maybe it has been already said. As part of the JavaFX updates there should be a JWebKit component that is basically a native Swing binding for the rendering engine. It will be available also from Java and all platforms will be supported. I don't know when it will be ready, but JavaFX is due for November (don't know when it will be available for Mac OS X too).

So it depends on your deadline, but I would consider a temporary solution based on a native renderer and later migrating to JWebKit when it's available.
