It's unlikely that Java 6 is contributing to the NetBeans crashes.
The crash log clearly shows 1.5's java being executed. For one
example, see the following archived post.
All the other posted crash logs also show 1.5's java command,
executed with the same absolute pathname. Review the online archives
of posts by Gary Nunes and James Rome here:
The 'printenv' command lists environment variables. The 'set'
command lists ALL shell variables, which includes ones that aren't in
the environment.
