Thanks for sharing.

Going a bit off-topic here, I never liked these things. Not only in the sense in which you quote Mike on HUDs (with which I agree 100% percent), but also in the sense that even when you have a full screen app that you don't want to obscure with opaque palettes, HUDs still (IMHO) do more damage then good. I mean, they are too opaque to really see what's going on behind them, and at the same time transparent enough to be confusing. I always thought that this was one of Apple's attempts to push the GUI frontier and look cool, but not a very functional one.

What might be interesting is if they were much more transparent by default (or some parts, or whatever), but when hovering over them they get more opaque. I believe the desired functionality could be achieved that way in a much more functional manner.
