Would a petition to get jdk 1.5 back in Snow Leopard help?
A petition? No. Bug reports, maybe, but unlikely. A better report, I
think, would be to point out a specific situation in which the Java
1.6 runtime fails to emulate the behavior of 1.5.

Java 6 was recently forced upon Java developers that use Macs by
Apple in the latest OS release, Snow Leopard, ... which I'm not real
happy about. It makes me wonder if Macs are really the way to go in
Java development. Real everyday development shops (not the fairy
tale ones that Apple think exists for some reason) develop and
support code that we DON'T WANT to upgrade to later versions of Java
or libraries that are required in order to do so (there is no ROI in
it). So why can't my OS of choice have multiple versions of Java
like every other OS on the market?

It's kind of funny. I remember not too long ago that people were
complaining on this very list about Macs becoming unsuitable for Java
development because everybody else had moved on to Java 1.6 and Apple
was still stuck at 1.5. Now that Apple has moved to Java 1.6, the
complaints are the other way around. Heaven help us when Java 7 gets
released.

You copied Java 1.5 from Leopard to Snow Leopard. If you move it
