Did you set the textures to repeat at the edges?
glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, the_texture);
glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_T, GL_REPEAT);
glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_S, GL_REPEAT);
