Checklist of things to get VAR fast?



hi Y'all,

The Apple demos seem to provide a 6x improvement for VAR over regular client arrays, but a 12x improvement for DLs vs. client arrays.

Can anyone tell me a check list of things to make VAR fast? Right now I am enabling Apple's VAR, setting the range, and I see a slowdown.

Is there a heavy cost to changing the vertex array range? (And if so do I need to keep all of my data localized in memory?) I got down this path trying to improve on DLs...when dealing with a really huge amount of geometry they are very very slow.
