Does the 6800 DDL or the Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 have hardware
overlay plane support?
What video cards on the Mac support hardware overlay planes?
(Hopefully with dual link to support the 30" Apple display?)
As a developer, you really cannot count on hardware overlay planes
anymore. Even auxiliary buffers are few and far between, outside of OS
X.
For maximum portability, you probably want to be using pbuffers for
your tasks rather than overlay planes. Using alpha channel pbuffers
with stenciling can probably get you the effect that you want.
