I am running a GeForce 6800 and I am just wondering two things:
First: Are 32-bit floating point textures possible on the 6800? I know
the actual hardware is compliant, and the GL_APPLE_float_pixels appears
in the extension list, but it seems that if I try to create PBuffer
with 128-bits and the kCGLPFAColorFloat extention, the computer will
kernel panic. Additionally, if I try to use RGB_FLOAT32_APPLE to load
a texture, I find that I only get odd results. It seems that only
16-bit floating point textures work with the Apple drivers and the
6800, is this true?
Second: Is there any way to use NV40/FP40 programs in the Apple
environment? The Cg compiler does not recognize the card as NV40
compatible and I don't see the NV_fragment_program_4 extension, so is
this just not possible?
If anyone has any experience or advice on any of these problems, please
contact me, I have been working for awhile trying to figure out all
possible ways to use these features.
Thanks in advance,
Mark Colbert
