The hardware capability is there (Radeon HD 2600 is a DX10 card, and
DX10 requires support for reading textures from all shader stages -
vertex, geometry, fragment). Whether that capability is exposed in
current Apple's drivers, I don't know.

The older ATI card generations did not support reading from textures
in a vertex shader (everything up to and including Radeon X1950).
